Weekly Starbucks Count: 5

This week started off on a pretty bad Starbucks note: 3 in one day on Monday.  I don't have a really good excuse for that, except it was pretty cold.  And if you're walking around in the cold, it makes sense to have a hot drink.  How's that for rationalization? Tuesday was a good day: 0 Starbucks.  Of course, that's only because there is no Starbucks within a 6 mile vicinity of my university.  Now, I'm sure you are wondering how a mere 6 miles could separate me from my joyous decaf grande soy latte.  That one is pretty easy; I don't own a car and I cannot make the 12 mile round trip without one.  I work in a town that can only be described as the border between suburbia and farm land (or, as I like to think of it - Deliverance country without the crazy people).  Those 6 miles are pretty much all on major highways, so I can't even walk there.  And yes, I've thought about it.  More than once. Wednesday: 1 Starbucks.  Only having 1 Starbucks in a day is

Killing a week in Europe - what's a girl to do?

I started this blog to have a forum to tell everyone about my upcoming summer vacation.  I thought a blog was a great way to keep all my family and friends up to date about my trip, without having to spend time writing multiple emails.  My blog from my Asia trip in 2008 didn't fare particularly well (mostly because I forgot to write it), so I'm trying again.  I thought that this time around, I should probably practice ahead of time.  Also, internet access is a lot better in Europe than in Asia, so that will help too.  I hope. So what is this fabulous vacation that I can't wait to tell you about?  After a lot of thought and weighing many options, I decided to spend my summer in Costa del Sol, on the south of Spain.  I visited Spain once in college (10 days in Seville) and always wanted to go back.  But I wasn't looking for a "live out of a suitcase" whirlwind tour, so I decided to rent an apartment in Almunecar, in the Granada province.  For 6 weeks.  Just be

Bienvenida!

Well, I've succumbed and joined the world of the blogging.  So welcome to my new blog: The Nadine Scene!  The main goal of my blog is to tell everyone about my fabulous summer vacation, except it hasn't happened yet.  So in the meantime, I thought I would bore you all with the planning stages of my impending vacation, my constant struggle to break my Starbucks addiction, and my completely awful attempts at learning to cook in 2010. Those of you who know me are probably laughing out loud at the idea of me breaking my Starbucks addiction (and cringing at the possibility that you'll be invited over for dinner sometime in the next 10 months, but that's another post).  But after some basic math, it occurred to me that the amount of money that I spent on Starbucks in a given year is equivalent to the amount of money that I'll spend on a long weekend in Portugal (or if I'm honest with myself, possibly an entire week).  Needless to say, it will buy me a lot of sangria
